Negligent Diagnoses: One would hope that all doctors would make sure to act properly when diagnosing patients. Sadly, doctors do not always live up to this hope. Sometimes, doctors commit diagnosis-related negligence. One example of such negligence is a negligent misdiagnosis.
A negligent misdiagnosis can be very impactful on a patient. For example, such negligence can sometimes lead to a patient receiving treatment for a condition they don’t actually have. This can be very harmful to a patient.
Recently, a case has arisen involving allegations of diagnosis-related negligence. The case is from Louisiana.
A woman has alleged that a doctor negligently misdiagnosed her. Specifically, the woman alleges that the doctor negligently diagnosed her with a precancerous breast condition that she didn’t actually have. According to the woman, this alleged negligent misdiagnosis led to her undergoing an unnecessary operation and taking an unnecessary medication. The woman claims that the medication caused her to suffer severe side effects.

As the allegations in this case show, diagnosis-related negligence can cause significant harm to patients. One hopes that doctors are held accountable when they commit harmful diagnosis-related negligence.
One action medical negligence victims will sometimes take is pursuing a medical malpractice claim against the perpetrators of the negligence. Such claims can be a major part of a patient’s efforts to seek relief for harms they suffered due to medical negligence.
